Protea Hotel Cape Town Sea Point

It was a very comfortable stay, nothing fancy but all good, service was amicable and efficient. Breakfast was of high quality and the location near promenade and shops is ideal. The price is reasonable as well.

Perfect location Good for a few days stay

Sadly, our stay 1 week was not good. This hotel is falling apart. The rooms need MUCH improvement. No matter which room you pick on the south side (parking lot view!), they ALL need new windows (we were a group of 12!). How is it that being in Cape Town where it's always windy, the hotel has not realized the need for good windows - I do not understand. They rattled at night and leaked water when raining. Bathrooms are just sad and small, no toilet paper holder, so you literally have to do a 180 degree turn and reach up for TP. Not ONE wall in the room had any sort of art, all 4 plain white(ish) walls. TV was the size of an IPAD and only had 7 Chanels (local), why... I don't know. Breakfast was OK, nothing too crazy, but most of the time you had to chase people down for them to make an omelet, or finish cooking the bacon as it was almost raw! How did you get endorsed by Marriott is beyond my (our) comprehension!

This is a lovely hotel that punches far above its 3* weight. I used Marriott Bonvoy points for a six night pre-cruise stay, upgrading to a Deluxe corner sea view room for cash. My room had a great bed, high quality rain shower, and good air con. It came with two balconies, one of which gave a view to the beach, and the balcony was a good spot for a pre-dinner sundowner! The hotel has a fourth floor mini-pool and sun deck area. My room had a corner desk with a large TV on it, and both SA and UK plug sockets. I also had a good quiet built-in fridge, and good wardrobe storage with a room safe large enough for a laptop. The hotel staff are lovely, highly professional, and very friendly. I was very impressed. The lovely and highly professional independent travel and tour concierge Asa Hardien of World Of Azraah had arranged a car for me, and I was at the hotel less than an hour after the BA flight landed. Asa is based in the hotel lobby and she also arranged a number of full day tours for me with driver / guide Yagyha, who is an excellent knowledgeable licensed guide. We did a City tour including Table Mountain and Langa township, then a Cape Tour , and a tour to Hermanus on the road to Cape Agulhas. I also did a full day wine “excellence” tour on the Franschoek wine tram, with breakfast, lunch, and dessert at three different wineries. The hotel offers a very good breakfast, even having a chef full-time on an egg station. Great choice of juices, fruit, cereals and pastries, plus a full range of cooked items, and speciality coffees at no extra charge. On site is a Seven Spur steak house which has an extensive menu. They do a great cheeseburger and fries! Sea Point is a delightful Cape Town suburb just a short Uber ride from the CBD, with the hotel being 150m from the sea front. Locally there’s a good choice of restaurants including an Ocean Basket (think superb King Prawns!), plus there’s a large Checkers supermarket for most of your needs (apart from beer), as well as a liquor store opposite the Checkers. Overall, a great stay!

I’ve stayed here twice in 1 week and this last time for 3 nights. There was a small issue checking in ( the room was booked via a third party) but the hotel handled it very well. Clean, well organized, great location near Sea Point. The rooms are standard and the area is not in the CBD but there are restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance. I’m sensitive to noise and the front desk kindly moved me to a room away from the elevator and stairs. After travelling for a few weeks, I used the hotel laundry service which was excellent! Breakfast was varied and plentiful. The bartender was great. Thanks to Alex and the front desk team!

Rooms quite standard i suppose price is relative to location which was good, cleanliness lacks deep cleaning I have yet to find a hotel that spring cleans their units at least once a week, outside air con units dusty and dirty, shower heads and floor not deep cleaned, kettle scaling, etc

No aircons, extremely hot in like an oven during hot weather, bathroom shower clogged and took them 3 days to move us to another room. Refused refund. My Super M milkshake curdled because of the heat. Good location. Reasonably priced Best during cold weather.

Good hotel for a clean, nice stay at a very reasonable rate for the area. Parking is easy and good. Friendly staff and reception. Unfortunately there is no room service when the inhouse Spur restaurant is closed and also no restaurants or even a place to get water in the close vicinity.

This is a highly polished hotel set in a safe area of Cape Town. The staff do glisten in any light. Without exception they are all friendly and attentive - I know because I saw them interacting with other guests and we all experienced their polished service standards. They are well motivated and it shows. Be there to know that each feels part of the team striving to deliver a warm and friendly experience for their guests.
