I was checking out of the hotel to take my family to Palma Airport (PMI). I had organized two taxis and began to pack the luggage. As our children remained in the reception, I went to the room to help my wife with her suitcase. Upon leaving, the door closed behind me, and I discovered that the lock was no longer functioning, trapping us inside the room. We called the hotel reception for assistance. The hotel staff came to verify that the door could not be opened from either inside or outside. Despite their continued efforts over the next few hours, they were unsuccessful in opening the lock. The staff then decided to call a locksmith, who, as it turned out, worked for the company that made the doors and was located in Alcudia, on the other side of the island. By the time when my wife and children were scheduled to board their flight to the U.S. with a stopover in Stockholm, we were still locked in the room. Our children, waiting outside, were increasingly worried and anxious. By the time for my flight to the U.S. via Paris with my son, we remained trapped. Finally, more than 2 hours later, the locksmith managed to break the door frame to open it, and we were freed from the room. However, by this time, we had missed our flights, lost a hotel night in Stockholm for my wife and kids, and missed the opportunity to change our flight tickets as the plane had already departed. Finding five return tickets to the U.S. during the peak season was extremely difficult. After many hours, any many thousand dollars, we were able to book new tickets and a 3 day journey back to US could start. The anxiety and stress of this experience were indescribable. Being locked in a room, unable to console our children, and uncertain about how we would reach home while losing two days of work was a nightmare. We even feared what might happen in case of a sudden fire! Despite several attempts to contact the hotel for any kind of reimbursement, all efforts were fruitless. They never responded to our calls or emails, adding to the frustration and disappointment of this terrible ordeal. Beware of this hotel and their lack of accountability!
