Lirio Lodge

We spend two nights three days at the lodge. The dock was a bit difficult to find but once we got close there were signs. We felt like our car was super safe, and enjoyed that the lodge is only accessible by boat. The staff was very nice and attentive to our family and flexible with our needs. As we are traveling with a two-year old it was appreciated. The different tours allowed us to spot birds, caimans, fresh-water turtles, loads of howler monkey, two-toed and three-toed sloths. We also enjoyed the trip to the Caribbean beach and the nature reserve where we spotted the poisonous red frogs. There was enough time and places to relax and unwind in the nature. The bungalows and food is simple as you experience in much of Costa Rica and Central America. However, it was filling and there were always enough and some nice local juices to try. The staff and the guides learned us a lot about the fauna, the area and helped us spot animals. Though early in the season we went on the sea turtle-tour. We were not lucky enough to see a sea turtle nest, but it was a great experience. Go to this place if you want to see a lot of animals and stay in a simple place with nature all around you away from the beaten track. Thank you!

This is a unique place to experience Costa Rica off the beaten path. In a tranquil corner, away from the mass of Tortuguero, you can really enjoy seeing many animals from up close during the different activities. Apart from exploring the area by boat or walk through the forest and towards the beach, you get to use the kayaks whenever you feel like, rest in a hammock or simply enjoy the views from the comfortable, open restaurant. The lodge itself is small, has rustic, comfortable cabins, serves excellent local food and the entire team greats you with a big smile. For anyone seeking a small scale getaway to enjoy nature. Highly recommended!

Liolodge is the best place we have had in Costa Rica. The food is very good, the lodges in the middle of nature, I loved the singing bird with his special nests, the Oro Pendula. The guides have veery good eyes and also Buki, the bootsman, had very good eyes. The most important thing: We felt very very good that all the people work with en from their hart, and you can feel and see that in everything. Also the people who clean the lodges, they also do their job from their hart. It was such a good place. We really hope that we can come back some day.

We spent the most amazing 2 nights at the lodge. Marvin our guide was outstanding. His knowledge of all the animals especially the Costa Rican birds was a sight to behold and really captivated our 3 kids (10,10 and 6). We found sloths, Jaguar footprints on the beach and lots of howler and spider monkeys. The accommodation is very basic but this is the charm of the place. Waking up to the cockerel and howler monkey trying to compete with one another at 4 in the morning was a definite highlight. Special mention to Elvis our cook who loved to chat to us in Spanish, even though we spoken little to no Spanish. Truely a special place

Wonderful view, very friendly service, good food, great guide and boat driver to see and learn more about this region. A very quiet place, because you can only reach it by boat, with great songs of the beautiful Montezuma-Birds. Our excellent guide was very interested in flora and fauna, with a huge knowledge, that he shared with us.

I had an unforgettable stay at Lirio Lodge. The location amidst stunning flora and fauna was a unique opportunity to immerse in nature. The boat ride through the canals allowed me to observe a variety of animals without crowds. Impressed by their 100% solar energy and attentive staff. Top-notch food offerings included delicious local cuisine. Highly recommend for a sustainable and unique experience

We have spent 3 wonderful days at Lirio. Although having already been in Costa Rica and its natural resorts Lirio was adding new, nice experiences. Already the trip from Goshen to the lodge via boat was overwhelming. In the following days Marvin and the "capitano" showed us the the variety and beauty of flora and fauna of Pacuere demonstrating a lot of knowledge and passion for the nature and Cista Ricas achievements. Every day, Mavins wife cooked very delicious local menus carefully considering particular requirements. It was a perfectly relaxing stay to wind down and just enjoy the day(s).

Many people go to Tortuguero, which it makes it a very crowded, over visited area. Not here ! If you're looking for a beautiful, serene, remote yet cozy location look no further. You get picked up at the Goshen dock (which is already fairly remote by itself) and taken to the wonderful Lirio lodge by boat. The transfer lasts roughly 25 minutes by boat. Once arrived at the lodge and greeted with a welcome juice, we were given some explanation about the location, what to expect (nature, calm, animals, friendly staff) what not to expect (windows in the rooms, hot water in the showers, drinking water at the tap) and where shown our rooms. The rooms are charming bungalows with mosquito net instead of windows (curtains available) beds with clean sheets, blankets as the night can get cold, a private bathroom with a sink and shower, shampoo / soap and plenty of towels. Make no mistake, this is by no means a luxury accommodation, but why would you want luxury in the first place when connecting back with nature ? And don't get me wrong, the place is not run down by any means, it has everything you need to spend a great stay, but don't expect air conditioning, massage showers or cocktails, this is simply not the place to go for this. Instead you get a wonderful jungle experience run by experienced and extremely friendly people who are very knowledgeable about the area and are very eager to share their knowledge and enthusiasm. One of the best experiences we've made for our whole 2 weeks Costa Rica trip !

It seems the owners are not really interested to provide the guest with the best experience they could have. I left a very lengthy review with the good and the bad, when we left, but there was no follow up. The location is very good, the lodge and walk ways are nice, but lacks attention to detail. Rooms are very big, but apart from beds and one small table there are no furniture, nothing to sit on, just half off the room as an empty space. There are lots of animals, monkeys, slot and especially birds but the guide they engage (at this time???), although being a nice person, was not a naturalist with love to spot the wildlife and show it to guests, he relied on the very good boat captain for spotting and then tells you his extensive knowledge. On one excursion locals told him they just saw a boa constrictor around the corner, but he kept on talking about the flora -although we had to go back the same way-. When we finally got to the place, the snake was gone... Food is not as tasty as it was in other smaller lodges for example they served bought orange juice there was no fresh pressed juice. The waiter does not have a good service mentality. I ordered a drink -during lunch hours- three times and when he didn't return I went looking for him and found him watching TV with other staff members. Apart from the german manager and the boat captain no-one seems to care. Also plastic chairs in the dining area look a bit out of place in such a rustic setting are are not eco friendly. Sad for such potential and good location.
